As Mayor, and on behalf of the City Council and our dedicated City employees, I want to welcome you to the City of Rockmart's website. Our city is unique and was founded in 1872 and there is no city anywhere in the world that we share our name with. From the Rock Market of the Southeast to the City of Rockmart we are the "One and Only".
Whether you are a resident of the community or just visiting our website, we hope you find the information posted and the tools useful and helpful.
Our city is small but rich in culture, community pride and desires. Only the best for our citizens and those that come to visit this great community. Our focus is on advocating for and encouraging a clean, safe and vibrant neighborhood. Rockmart has a wonderful public library with great amenities, a Cultural Arts Center and Theater second to none, especially for a town of less than 5,000 people. We are extremely proud of our history museum displaying our rich history, Seaborn Jones Park, our first-class recreation facilities, and our main tourist attraction The Silver Comet Trail which is part of US Bike Route 21 running from Atlanta to Chattanooga, Tennessee. Rockmart also has a Farmers Marker which is open on Thursdays year-round.
Rockmart is home of many festivals throughout the year. In March we celebrate our heritage with the annual Welsh-Fest, every July we celebrate the annual Homespun Festival and our Fall Festival on the Euharlee the first of October. Additionally, the City supports the efforts of small businesses throughout the community and promotes the many activities such as Antique Festivals and other community events both downtown and throughout our business districts.
Rockmart is surrounded by several wedding venues that benefit from our area's natural resources and beauty.
Our children attend schools which are part of the Polk County School District. We have two elementary schools, Vanwert Elementary and Eastside Elementary, along with Rockmart Middle School and Rockmart High School. Rockmart also has a post-secondary educational campus known as Georgia Northwestern Technical College which we are proud of.
As one of two major economic hubs within Polk County, Rockmart is extremely proud to be the home of several major industries to include but not limited to Meggitt Polymers & Composites, Jefferson Southern Corporation, Eby-Brown, Miura American Company, Ltd., Rock and Earth Technologies, Wayne Davis Concrete, Tip Top Poultry Inc, Koch Foods Inc, Angelica, Agro Merchants Group, and CW Matthews.
Our city is diverse and blessed to have many locally owned and national chain grocery, restaurants and retail stores located on our hospitality corridor on Highway 278 in addition too, our small business establishments and restaurants both downtown and throughout the city.
Downtown Rockmart has unique charm and beauty with many fine shops and restaurants to explore and surrounded by beautiful churches built in the late 1800's and early 1900's.
Rockmart is a truly blessed community with significant history, and we look forward to many improvements as we prepare for Rockmart's Sesquicentennial (150th) anniversary celebration in 2022.
We encourage our residents to enjoy the amenities that Rockmart has to offer, and we invite others to come visit and enjoy our southern hospitality.
Sherman Ross,
Mayor
